Reformation of the Saint

The allegory of Saint Sebastian presents the journey of one’s beliefs, tested to the limits in the face of adversity. The idea of this story has inspired others to shun confines of conformity and pursue their genuine selves. Here, it is told through the experience of two trans-women - Jacqueline and Joslyn.

Jacqueline is at the beginning of her transition. Arrows of doubt and societal expectations pierce her flesh as each wound she bears reveals the inner battles many face when striving for acceptance and self-identity.

The angel, Joslyn, represents resilience. She embodies the struggle of an individual who embraces their true self.

Pain can be the cornerstone to growth and here we see how persevering in one’s journey can inspire another to do the same, offering love and support as one finds their own way on a similar path.

The final painting (in progress, not shown here) depicts The Visitation of Joslyn to Jacqueline.
